ENGAGE: Serve

ENGAGE: Serve is an outreach event collaborating with local ministry organizations as a way for CBC women, men and kids Junior High and up to serve our community. Participants are the compassionate “heart, hands and feet” of Jesus, engaging the culture with the gospel in active and practical ways.

Here are some of the people we will serve:

  • 50 + - X lives alone and has never been married. Her companion and “love of her life” was her dog, who recently died. She is devastated with this loss, so much so it is making her daily life a struggle just to get things done. She is low income, working in an accounting office of just $20 an hour, just making ends meet.

  • 70’s – X & Y are in their ageing years and both are disabled. She has MS and he is battling cancer. They’ve lived in their home since 1977. They are on a fixed income, but stable financially.

  • 40 – X is a young widow, having recently lost her husband in a freak bus accident on his way to work in the fall of 2017. She has a 3-year-old son. She has been grieving and trying to get her life back on track since this tragic loss. She went back to work a year ago in order to support herself and her son. She has no family locally.

  • 70’s – Y is originally from Iran and is now an American citizen. He has lived alone in his home for 20 years. His only source of income is Social Security. His failing health has made it impossible to keep up his home, especially his yard work.

We will be doing:

  • Yard Work:

  • Big projects (overgrown areas, spreading gravel, power washing), and

  • Small projects (pruning, planting flower beds, weeding)

  • Outdoor Building: deck and fence construction and repair, staining fences, painting deck

  • Visitation: visiting with the homeowner

  • Jubilee Reach Center: Inside tasks such as cleaning, small painting project, and organizing at Jubilee Reach (less physical than the yard work)

  • Lunch Crew: Purchasing, assembling, and deliver lunches to the work sites
